At last nights Electra BA5 we welcomed Jerry Shearman from Central Economic Development Agency (CEDA) to speak to our local business community.
Jerry is a former scientist with a passion for data and insights, who believes strongly in evidence-based decision-making. With over 15 years’ experience in senior leadership roles within the tertiary education sector, Jerry brought a wealth of expertise with his strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement, and turning vision into action as evidenced by some of the exciting things happening in the area.
Jerry spoke about the projects and key strategies happening in the region as well as the links to Horowhenua, with shared workforce, economy, visitors and more.
Jerry shared "The Government’s 30-year draft National Infrastructure Plan released yesterday has delivered a strong vote of confidence in Manawatū’s future. Of the 17 nationally significant projects identified, six will directly drive economic activity across our region, including upgrades to NZDF facilities, housing, and roads; continued development at Linton Military Camp; and completion of the Ohakea Base expansion and most importantly, the enhanced freight connections through the Manawatū Regional Freight Ring Road."
"There is a lot happening in our regional food strategy with links to the food story and visitor sector too"
Bernie Wanden, Horowhenua Mayor our emcee who co-ordinated an excellent Q&A session off the floor for participants which lasted around 20 minutes.
