Growth forecast

Horowhenua’s population is growing, and will be spurred on further by the Ōtaki to North of Levin (Ō2NL) expressway, bringing even stronger linkages into the Wellington Region. This strong growth will put the district on track for a population of 50,000 in the late 2030s.

We have already benefited from the road and rail investments on the Kāpiti Coast, which have improved connections between Horowhenua and the Wellington Region, plus the Ō2NL expressway and upgrades to the rail service will make travel to both Wellington and Palmerston North so much easier by 2029.

Employment and GDP is forecast to grow faster than both the Wellington or Manawatū-Whanganui Regions.
